Symbol of Knowledge Brooch - Museum Shop Collection
From the Library of Congress
This brooch is a tribute to the Library's mission of collecting and sharing the wisdom of all civilizations. This design is inspired by an architectural detail on the second floor, west side, of the Great Hall. The border encircles an imbricated laurel wreath. The open book and torches of learning are a recurring motif in the elaborately decorated Jefferson Building and symbolize the importance of learning in a knowledge-based democracy.
Material: Pewter with antique gold finish.
