In Stradbally there are the remains of the 6th century monastery, Ougheval Abbey. The monastery was founded by St. Colman, a disciple of St. Columba of Iona. Ougheval Abbey is thought to be the place where manuscript, The Book of Leinster was collated and kept there for many generations and was then known as the Book of Oughaval. It is now preserved in Trinity College, Dublin. The three dots on each end represent the Holy Trinity. The flower in the middle of the cross represents growth of God's creatures both physically and spiritually.
