from the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts
Our pin is a tribute to the United States of America. Samuel McIntire, born in Salem in 1757 helped to create the symbols of power that projected a young nation’s identity. His distinctive designs captured the essence of Salem’s entrepreneurial spirit. Samuel McIntire worked as an architect, wood carver, and furniture designer. His Salem, Massachusetts U.S. Custom House sign features an eagle carved in high relief. It is a variant of the Great Seal of the United States, with the eagle configured to fit the horizontal format of the sign.


Proceeds from the sale of this product support the Peabody Essex Museum.


Materials: pewter with antique silver finish, and epoxy. Tie Tack post with butterfly clutch closure.
