Baltic Lace Necklace - Museum Shop Collection
18th - 19th Centuries
This Russian jewelry, combining amber, pearls and the delicate Bukhara cap reflect the lavishness of Russian court jewelry during the 18th and 19th centuries. At this time fresh water pearls could be found in the rivers of northern Russia and amber, also called sun stone, could be found on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Amber (fossilized tree resin) was thought to bring its wearer happiness and good health.
