Hollyhocks Pin - Frank Lloyd Wright
This pin is an adaptation of the design used in the cast concrete plaques in Aline Barnsdall's 1921 Hollyhock House. Wright's abstraction of the hollyhock (alcea rosea) has been described as Maya, but it actually allows for much freedom of interpretation. A series of these plaques runs across the west faade of the house, and variations of the design are used throughout the house, on exterior planters, and stele.
