Medieval heart necklace original in the collection of the Museum of London, dated to the late 17th century. The original of this piece is a silver heart-shaped pendant, engraved on both sides with poesy inscriptions in period 17th century English and decorated with sprays of forget-me-not and tiny leaves. On the face is engraved:I love the(e) and dare not shew it, if thou Love me then let me know it while the reverse is inscribed: Thy vertue move(s) my heart to love. English spelling and usage was inconsistent until the eighteenth century as well as the poetic licence of the engraver. Both the form of the engraving and the sentiment itself offers a charming elegance of thought and expression.
